The University of Arkansas Board of Trustees today approved the purchase of land in Texarkana, Miller County, Arkansas, for the future location of a campus facility of the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope. This is a significant step in a long-term commitment by UACCH and the University of Arkansas System to meet the higher education needs of Miller County and surrounding communities.
The planned expansion of UACCH in Texarkana will assist the College in delivering its quality, affordable educational programs to students in the area. UACCH’s student-first approach has helped the College continue to grow and be a positive impact on the communities it serves. UACCH celebrated the institution’s largest graduating class in May of 2011 and looks forward to providing expanded service to Miller County.
“Today’s approval by the trustees to allow UACCH to purchase real estate in Miller County is the first major step in achieving our goal of better serving a key community in our primary service area,” said UACCH Chancellor, Chris Thomason. “We look forward to working very closely with all partners in Miller County as we grow this campus together. I am confident that the combined assets of the University of Arkansas System and UACCH will provide students with unmatched opportunity. In addition, today’s action is an investment by UACCH in a shared responsibility to promote economic prosperity for the region.”
“I’m excited about the plans to expand the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope in order to better serve the people of Miller County,” said Dr. B. Alan Sugg, president of the University of Arkansas System. “I know this expansion will have a positive impact on both the college and the people of that community for years to come.”
