Melanie Dillard
Q. Where are you from and where did you graduate college?
A. Rosston, Arkansas, graduated from SAU

Q. Why did you choose education as a career?
A. I’ve always enjoyed math and helping people so the two naturally led to education. Knowing that I am helping individuals, families, and our community is very rewarding.

Q. What do you LOVE about your classes at UAHT?
A. My hardworking students!! I primarily teach AAS Math Health Professions, AAS Math Business, and Math for Teachers. Students enrolled in these courses have their future mapped out and take the work seriously. I’m proud to be part of their pathway to achieving their goals.

Q. What are your favorite hobbies? What do you do to relax?
A. Relax?? What’s that!? I love to spend time with my husband and two kids. We love outdoor activities like fishing and camping. I’m a certified SCUBA diver and LOVE the ocean.

Q. What is your motto for your class?
A. Come to class and do the work. It takes time, hard work, and perseverance to be successful at math.

Q. What is something you wish you would have known when you were in college? Do you have any advice you want to pass along to students?
A. I wish I would have “owned” my degree plan sooner. It took me a few semesters of some “not so great advising” before I figured out how important it was that I knew which courses I needed rather than rely on someone else to tell me which courses I needed. I took 2 courses I didn’t need and 1 course later that I should have which resulted in me graduating a whole semester late! BUMMER!

Q. What is your favorite snack?
A. Medium Rare Steak (or banana laffy taffy)

Q. Where are you from and where did you graduate college?
A. Undergraduate: University of Central Arkansas, Graduate: University of Arkansas William J. Clinton School of Public Service.

Q. Why did you choose education as a career?
A. I love seeing students get it. Helping a student get their footing and find their way in the early stages of their educational pursuits is truly a noble job. Education is not my full-time career, but I find it so fulfilling and worthwhile.

Q. What do you LOVE about your classes at UAHT?
A. I love the students who work hard and are invested in learning. Our students are usually working, going to school and juggling family and personal responsibilities. I’m always in awe of all they do!

Q. What are your favorite hobbies? What do you do to relax?
A. I love to hang out with my family. I have two sons, 7 and 3, and we like to be outside, play soccer or baseball, and be goofy together. They’re the best part of my life. I also love to bargain shop, plan and host events and spend time with friends.

Q. What is your motto for your class?
A. Your education is your responsibility, not mine, not your parents’, and no one else’s but yours. Take hold of it, and make it your own.

Q. What is something you wish you would have known when you were in college? Do you have any advice you want to pass along to students?
A. I wish I would have known that my professors wanted me to learn. I thought their job was to make classes hard and weed students out, but that’s not the goal at all.

Q. What is your favorite snack?
A. All things sweet!
