With a record number of contestants, 2013 Watermelon Idol winner is Maegan Estes. As the Watermelon Idol Winner, Estes won $300 cash prize and opened for Tracy Lawrence Saturday night on the CMC Steel Stage during the Watermelon Festival Concert. Estes, 19 years of age from Hope said that the cash prize was very timely as she prepares to buy books for the upcoming college semester.
The preliminary round qualified eleven contestants to compete in the finals on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. on the BancorpSouth Stage. The three judges and a crowd of festival attendees listened as each contestant took to the stage and sang their best in hopes of winning this year’s contest.
The final results were:
1) Maegan Estes, 19, of Hope
2) Carl “Action “ Jackson of Hope
3) Marli Humphrey, 12, of Texarkana, Texas
Among the contestants were several groups. The group of four young ladies ages 11, 10, 7, and 5 who competed as the Angelic Angels were awarded the outstanding group award. The University of Arkansas Community College at Hope would like to thank all of our contestants for competing in this talent competition.
